5. Those Beginning With Ca to Ch


Luke Callander

An experienced forward (b 24/10/85) he signed for AFC on 9th March 2015 having left Witham Town. His football career started as a young player at Ipswich Town where he was for seven years. He joined Stanway Rovers in 2006 and remained with them until joining Heybridge Swifts in January 2010. He stayed (144 apps 92 goals) until November 2013 when Chelmsford City were his next club. In November 2014 he went to Witham Town on dual registration but then left Chelmsford permanently before signing for AFC. He scored on his debut against Thurrock on 14th March 2015. 'Cally' re-signed for the 2015/16 season, and played throughout it culminating in winning a Ryman North Championship medal at the end of it. He re-signed for the 2016/17 season and was injured for some of the early part of it. He played his last game for the club on 7th January 2017 and on 9th January was sold to Bishop's Stortford. He remained with them until the end of the season as the club were relegated. On 31st May 2017 he joined Heybridge Swifts once again and played against AFC on 27th January 2018. He continued with them reaching the First Round of the FA Cup and having good FA Trophy run and losing in the play off final.

Craig Calver

A front running nineteen year old first year professional (b 20/01/91) at Southend United when he signed for the club on 26th March 2010. He made his debut the following day and scored. While with the ‘Seasiders’ he had loan spells with St Albans City and Braintree Town. He remained with the club at the start of the 2010/11 season, and in July 2010 went for a trial with Yeovil Town, playing the second half of a game against Swansea City. On 24th July he played a part in a testimonial game against a Manchester United XI and two days later was offered and accepted a one year contract with ‘The Glovers’. He made a few appearances before on 13th March 2011 going back on loan to Braintree Town, he played only a couple of times as a substitute before returning to Yeovil. On 5th May 2011 they announced that they would not be offering him terms for the 2011/12 season. He trialled with Histon before Bishop’s Stortford included him in their first pre-season game on 16th July 2011. He however transferred to Kings Lynn Town on 1st September 2011, before on 23rd September re-signing for AFC. On 28th October he signed for Haverhill Rovers on dual registration basis. He was not retained at the end of the 2011/12 season, and on 30th July 2012 he signed for Chelmsford City. He remained with them until 22nd December 2012 when he signed dual registration and joined St Neots Town, but on 18th February 2013 they announced that he had left them. On 27th March 2013 he had joined and scored for Cambridge City. At the start of the 2013/14 season, 10th August 2013, he played and scored for Saffron Walden Town and he remained with them until the end of the season. He continued with them in season 2014/15 and won promotion with them on 25th April 2015 to the Thurlow Nunn Premier League. He was also the winner of their Golden Boot award for 2014/15. He stayed with the Caton Lane club for the 2015/16 season and was still with them in December 2015. He was back with them both as Captain and Assistant Manager for the 2016/17 season August 2016 and remained with them until the end of it. On 29th August 2017!he was an unused substitute for Coggeshall Town, however on 1st September Mildenhall Town announced he had signed for them. He played for them against AFC on 2nd September 2017. On 25th November 2107 he was reported to have left the club and on 8th December was as signing for Enfield Town. After making six appearances on 14th January 2018 he was released and then signed for Cheshunt. On 21st June 2018 he had returned to Saffron Walden for the 2018/19 season.

Neil Calver

Born 1st October 1981, he was signed by manager Gary Harvey at the start of season 2003/04, a tenacious midfield player previously with Woodbridge Town and Ipswich Athletic. In November 2003 ‘Calvs’ was rewarded by signing a new contract until the end of the 2004/05 season. He was unfortunate to get sent off in the F.A. Vase Final of 2003/04 against Winchester City. He played in the 2004/05 final and scored from the spot in the 3-2 defeat. He played throughout 2005/06 picking an enormous amount of yellow cards on the way and continued on in season 2006/07 with the club. On 11th January 2007 he signed a contract extension until the end of the 2007/08 season and was also appointed the club’s Vice-Captain. During the 2006/07 season picked up a record 23 yellow cards, the most in the country. He was awarded the Goal of the Season award for 2006/07 for his goal at home against Ramsgate in the F.A. Trophy. He remained with the club at the start of the 2007/08 season but in the middle of October 2007 he asked to be placed on the transfer list and the request was granted. On 25th October 2007 he was sold for an undisclosed fee to Felixstowe and Walton United. He was with the ‘Seasiders’ again at the start of the 2008/09 season. On 9th February 2009 Hadleigh United announced that he had signed for them. After the end of the season on 4th June 2009, Leiston stated he had signed for them for the 2009/10 season. He was still there at the start of season 2010/11 and played throughout the season winning promotion in the process. The 2011/12 season saw him again with the Victory Road club and another promotion campaign, however he was not retained and on 15th May 2012 joined Hadleigh United once again. He was still with the ‘Millfield’ club at the start of the 2013/14 season August 2013 and was with them at the end of the season when the won the Thurlow Nunn Premier League. He continued with Hadleigh United in August 2014, but on 30th October had left left them. On 16th March 2015 he was announced as a new signing at Whitton United. The 2015/16 season saw him with Grundisburgh United on 30th August 2015 and he remained there in December 2015. On 20th August 2016 he was playing for Bramford United where he remained until the end of the season. On 2nd September 2017 he was playing for Cranes FC and was still there in May 2018.

Ollie Canfer

He is a player (b 01/10/88) who is happy in both midfield and up front. He started his football with Whitton United and won their Reserve Team Player of the Year at the end of the 2006/07 season. Walsham le Willows was his next stop and then Woodbridge Town and in April 2010. Stowmarket Town. At the start of the 2010/11 August 2010 he was with Hadleigh United and was still there in April 2014 helping them win the 2013/14 Thurlow Nunn Premier Division championship. At the start of the 2014/15 season he moved employment and joined Ramsgate before in November 2014 returning to the area and signing for Brightlingsea Regent from where he joined AFC at the start of the 2015/16 season. He made his competitive deaa 2015, however on 4th October he decided to leave the club. On 13th October he signed for Bury Town and was still there in may 2016. On 8th June the club announced he had agreed a deal to stay for the 2016/17 season. He played for them on 25th October 2016, but an injury that required an operation kept him out of action for the rest of the season. On 11th May 2017 Bury announced he would return for them in the 2017/18 season, which did playing again and scoring on 15th July 2017. On 14th October he announced his retirement from playing football due to a back injury, and ten days later was unveiled as the first team assistant manager at Debenham LC. On 21st November 2017 he stepped down from the role. Stowmarket Town announced on 11th July 2018 he had rejoined them.

Alfie Carroll

A young defender (b 03/12/97) from the AFC Academy, having previously played for East Bergholt, Haverhill Rovers and Halstead Town EJA sides. He played for both the Under 18's and AFC Reserves and made the bench for one first team game in both the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons. He made his debut as a substitute on 8th October 2016 away at Kingstonian, and his full debut on 26th November away at Kings Langley. He remained with the club until the end of the 2016/17 season. On 31st May 2017 he signed a two year contract with AFC, he started the 2017/18 season with the club, but on 8th December was released from his contract and signed for Haverhill Rovers. Alfie appeared in the BBC live FA Cup Match between Haverhill Rovers and Haverhill Borough on 11th August 2018

Josh Carus

A very experienced and dependable central defender (b 21/10/76) he started his long career with Norwich City. He played for King’s Lynn before joining Wroxham where he spent many seasons. He joined AFC at the start of the 2013/14 season and played until 1st April 2014 when he announced that due to work commitments he would no longer be available. He did however re-appear for the club’s last two games of the season due to an injury crisis. On 25th May 2014 Norwich United announced that he had joined them for 2014/15 and in April 2015 won the Thurlow Nunn Premier League Championship with them. On 4th May he won a Thurlow Nunn League Cup Winners medal with 'The Planters'. He was still with them on 2nd September 2015. On 13th February 2016 he had rejoined and played for Wroxham. He however returned and played for Norwich United and won a Championship winners medal with them at the end of the season. He played again for them on 24th September 2016. On 12th September 2017 he was playing for Norwich United Reserves.

Paul Catley

A very experienced goalkeeper (b 30/03/72), he signed for the club at the start of the 2008/09 season. He had played for Sudbury Town in their Southern League days, as well as Ipswich Town, Maldon Town, Chelmsford City, Witham Town and Braintree Town. After a series of niggling injuries he left the club around 20th December 2008. At the start of the 2009/10 season he was a goalkeeping coach at Braintree Town and still with them in November 2010. He continued at Cressing Road and was still there in September 2011. Seen on 8th January 2017 he was no longer involved in football.

Jack Cawley

A defender, (b 19/08/92) he signed for the reserves in October 2013, his previous clubs included, Leyton Orient, Bury Town, Team Bury, FC Clacton, Stanway Rovers, Hadleigh United, Leiston and Wivenhoe Town. He made his first team debut in a Suffolk Premier Cup tie on 8th October 2013 and played until the end of the 2013/14 season. On 25th July 2014 he was playing for Brantham Athletic, however late in January 2015 he was back with Stanway Rovers. He was still with them in April 2016 and he won the Supporters Player Of the Year Award at the end of the season. On 27th May the club announced that he had agreed to stay for another year. He played again for the on 25th October 2016. On 31st December he had left and made his debut for Heybridge Swifts where he remained until the end of the season. He continued with the Scraley Road club in the 2017/18 season and played for them at the beginning of January 2018 and remainec until the end of the season losing in the play-offs. He then went USA and played for AFC Ann Arbourt and played there during the summer of 2018. On 19th June 2018 Heybridge announced he would not be returning to them for the 2018/19 season.

Liam Cawthery

A young midfield player, he was signed from Long Melford in February 2009 to play in the reserves. He had played in the Melford youth set up and Ridgeons side making his debut in the 2005/06 season, He also had a short spell with Glemsford and Cavendish United in early February 2009. He made his debut as a substitute away at Chasetown on 21st March 2009. On 4th August 2009 he re-signed for Long Melford and won their Player of the Year Award at the end of the season. He remained with them in April 2011, however he suffered from a knee injury that did not heal until December 2012. On 27th August 2016 he played for Cavendish FC, and again on 17th September.

Danny Charge

Born 10th May 1988, he started off with Waltham Forest as a youth player and made his debut for them in January 2006 which was his one and only appearance before joining up with Dagenham and Redbridge reserve team and then earning a two-year contract with them. In November 2008, he joined Hitchin Town on loan playing four games for them before returning to Dagenham. He made his first-team debut in April 2009 but had his contract cancelled by mutual consent in August the same year. After his release he signed for then Conference side Grays Athletic leaving the club in December 2009, having scored three times in thirteen appearances. Hemel Hempstead Town was his next club until the end of the 2009/10 season playing a total of 14 times for the club, scoring twice, before leaving the club in May 2010. In July 2010, he went on trial with Football League side Leyton Orient, but was unsuccessful in earning a contract. Ahead of the 2010/11 season he signed for Billericay Town scoring on his debut. In September 2010, he went on a two-week trial with Stevenage but was unsuccessful returning to Billericay in October 2010. He went on to have a spell at Borehamwood before returning to Grays Athletic in January 2011 where he played for a while before suffering a bad ankle injury that force him to stop playing. At the start of the 2011/12 season he began to play again after the injury healed sufficiently, but only at a low level, before signing for AFC on 11th February 2012. He made his debut on 18th February at Chatham Town, however he was released on 23rd March 2012. On 31st March he rejoined Grays Athletic, but left in May 2012. He re-signed for AFC on 10th July 2012 and played until being released again on 22nd November 2012. At the beginning of February 2013 he had joined Eton Manor. At the start of the 2013/14 season he had joined Redbridge and on 10th August he scored on his debut. He was still with them in April 2014 and scored against AFC.In January 2014 he was working in Upminster as an estate agent and then went to work in Romford. On 12th August 2014 he was still with the Oakside club and scored for them, however on 6th September he announced that he was hanging up his boots. Early in season 2015/16 he was playing some Sunday League football.

Michael Cheetham

An industrious midfield player (b 30/06/67) he joined on amalgamation, from Sudbury Town. ‘Cheets’ had played professionally with Ipswich Town (4 Apps), Cambridge United (£50,000 in 1990 132 Apps 22 goals) and Chesterfield (free transfer 1994, 5 Apps) and Colchester United (37 Apps 3 goals). He won the First Team Player’s Player of the Year in 1999/00. He became assistant manager during season 2001/02 but declined the full job during 2002/03. Made coach to new manager Gary Harvey at the start of season 2003/04 and in December 2003 signed a new contract to keep him at the club until the end of the 2004/05 season. He continued in his role as coach through season 2005/06 making only one substitute appearance along the way despite being named numerous times as a substitute. In April 2006 he announced that along with manager Gary Harvey he would not continue in season 2006/07. He was awarded a testimonial game at the start of 2006/07 and Colchester United played at King’s Marsh in the game in July 2006, and he made a brief appearance in it before bowing out. He remained out of football but did watch a game at King’s Marsh in September 2008. In July 2009 he continued his career as a courier, as he still was in October 2010. He returned to King’s Marsh as a sponsors guest in April 2011 and did so again in August 2012 and April 2013. He attended AFC on 20th July 2014 for the Aaron Gardiner Memorial Dinner. On 21st June 2017 he wad appointed as a coach for the Undef 18's of Ipswich Wanderers.

Joe Chester

A young midfield player, he joined the club at the start of the 2014/15 season having played for Cornard United previously. He was part of the reserve side after progressing from the under 18's before after being on the first team bench a couple of times, made his debut as a substitute on 7th March 2015. He left at the end of the season and at the beginning of August 2015 had joined Hadleigh United.

David Chick

A former England Schoolboy international (b 27/02/85), he signed for the Norwich City Academy in 2001, where he remained until February 2004 when he signed for King’s Lynn. There he trialled with Boston United, Cheltenham Town and Bristol Rovers but stayed until the end of the season. At the start of 2005/06 he signed for Cambridge United but was released in February 2006. In October 2006 he had a trial with Peterborough United, but joined Cambridge City and stayed for the rest of the 2006/07 season. In September 2007 he joined Boston United, but in October 2007 he returned to Cambridge City leaving after one substitute appearance. In October 2008 he signed for Bishop’s Stortford and joined AFC Sudbury on 11th December 2008 to play initially in an FA Trophy game, but remained with the club into 2009. He was injured in the middle of March and not seen again. On 15th January 2010 he signed once again for Bishop’s Stortford. Lowestoft Town announced that he had signed for them on 13th September 2010, he however suffered a foot injury that restricted his appearances. He was with them still in March 2012, then went to Australia and joined Melbourne based side Hume FC. In October 2016 he was head football coach at A11 Melbourne an educational sports provider.

Curtis Child

A goalkeeper, he started his football with Dereham Town Academy before moving to the AFC Academy. He played in a pre-season first team game as a substitute when a fifteen year-old. He played for the club's under 18's and reserves sides. He was part of the quadruple winning under 18 side of the 2016/17 season. He was named on the first team bench on a number of time the first being 2nd January 2017 but at the end of the 2016/17 season left to attend University in Bournemouth. On 23rd December while back on leave he made his first team debut due to the regular goalkeeper breaking a finger two days earlier.

Steve Chisholm

A midfielder (b 02/09/88), he came through the youth system at Long Melford, making his first team debut in Ridgeons Division One football in the 2006/07 season when he went on to score 12 goals from 52 starts. He signed for AFC in February 2009 and after a few reserve team games made his debut at Chasetown on 21st March 2009. He remained at the club at the start of the 2009/10 season, but also played for Glemsford and Cavendish in April 2010. He won both the Reserve Managers and Reserve Players Player of the Year awards for 2009/10. He remained with the club in season 2010/11 and was playing for the reserves in May 2011. At the start of the 2011/12 season he returned again to King’s Marsh and was captain of the reserve side throughout it. The 2012/13 season saw him still playing at The MEL Group Stadium and still captain and at the end of the season win the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup. He continued with the club in August 2013, but did not play a great deal and had decided to leave and concentrate on karting in February 2014. On 27th June 2014 he was named by Long Melford as signing for them for the 2014/15 season. He played through the season and on 25th April 2015 won a Championship medal after winning the Thurlow Nunn First Division and promotion. He stayed with the Stoneylands club for the 2015/16 season and was there in April 2016, and he returned for the 2016/17 season August 2016. He suffered an injury early in the season but was playing again on 7th January 2017. At the start of the 2017/18 season 17th July 2017 he was still at Long Melford and played for them again on 9th December 2017. He remained with them until the end of the season. On 15th June 2018 he was announced as player/coach at the Stoneylands club for the 2018/19 season.
