Andy Harvison - AFC Sudbury's New Vice-Chair
Andy joined the Board of AFC Sudbury in July, 2024 as the Director for Education and has already demonstrated that football and education is a perfect mix. His knowledge and approach will be an invaluable asset to AFC Sudbury in the years to come.
Andy commented when accepting the appointment:
"Since my arrival at the club, I have been extremely impressed by the ethos and values that the club represents. This, alongside the obvious ambition, further presents an exciting opportunity to utilise my skills and knowledge to maximise the experience for all members of the Sudbury community.
As Vice-Chairman, I will work closely with the Chairman and other Board members to drive forward the vision of the club, ensuring its sustainability and growth both on and off the pitch. My experience fits nicely with the club's commitment to developing youth talent, enhancing community engagement, and creating an inclusive environment for all members of the community to thrive.
As with all organisations, the challenge is to maintain financial sustainability whilst aspiring to achieve the clubs' overall vision. Added to this is the significant growth of the club over the last few years. This is to be applauded and there have been huge developments in many areas. To maintain this level of provision requires some thoughtful, considered thinking, which needs to encapsulate the current situation as well as recognising the changing nature of the landscape.
Another key priority is to ensure that the youth development programme, centrally supported by the Academy, continues to flourish and attract young people from the local community. Naturally, with my background as a Headteacher and extensive experience in youth development, I am extremely passionate about fostering young talent and driving success both on and off the field of play. Sudbury's Academy reflects a purposeful Sixth form institution. It has absolute pleasure to visit the Academy and engage with the staff and students. There are many positive features and, once again, credit goes out to all involved with this development.
AFC Sudbury is very much a community-based club. The many volunteers show this clearly, providing connection opportunities for all community members. We all know the power of football to bring communities together and AFC Sudbury is a prime example. The next step, of course in any growing institution, is to manage all the operational requirements and, more significantly, the emotions and ambitions of all members of the club. My approach has always been to try and provide effective communication, ensuring transparency and fostering a culture of collaboration and trust amongst players, staff and supporters”
We are sure that everyone involved with the club will congratulate Andy in taking on the position and will wish him well in helping to ensure the continued success of AFC Sudbury at all levels.
