Today we travelled to Stowmarket for our return fixture. Having lost the original fixture 2-1, we were hoping the boys would be up for this game with a point to prove.
We started in a changed formation to try and change our luck of results and went for a 3-5-2 to try and allow us time on the ball to pass & move and do what we do best rather than trying to get involved in a physical battle.
Sadly we got off to a bad start, and were a goal down when 3 unmarked players arrived in the box to slot home past Will for Salvation Army to go 1-0 up in the first half - starting a game well is not our strong point!
The boys dug deep to get back into the game and pulled a goal back when Leo played out from defence to Max who slid in Tommy to make it 2 in 2 with a nice finish.
The game was pretty even till half time with a 1-1 score line being a fair result.
The 2nd half started similarly to the first with Salvation Army again scoring early to put them 2-1 up.
Sadly we were not able to get back in the game with George and Maty trying to influence the game from midfield but we were unable to get any shots away in the 2nd half and we lacked composure on the ball with players swinging a leg and giving the ball back to them or kicking it out of play, when a touch and pass would have been much easier and beneficial for the team.
Full time 2-1
Man of the Match could easily have gone to Leo today who was growing in confidence in his new role but our new boy, Daniel, again had a brilliant game, reading runs in behind and using his strength to defend for his team.
Special mention to Dougie who has now played 50 games for the team. Well done Dougie. A great achievement.
