AFC Keeper looking to go out on a high at Loftus Road on Monday

AFC Sudbury women’s academy started the cup off with a 3-1 win against Oaklands collage with 2 goals from Ruby Sealey and 1 coming from substitute Chloe Brame. The fourth round of the cup was a 10 goal game with the final score being 7-3 win. In the first 4 minutes Holly Kennard had bagged her self a goal, along with goals from Yasmin Drake and 2 from Ruby Sealey. Leaving the score at half time 4-1, the visitors then score 2 more making the score 4-3. The girls did not give up and 3 goals coming again from Ruby Sealey, Yasmin Drake and Holly Kennard within the last 10 minutes of play we made the score 7-3. Our quarter final we traveled to Norwich where the score was tied 0-0 at half time, shortly after the second half kicked off Ruby Sealey bagged herself a hatrick making it 3-0 then with 10 minutes to play Yazmin Drake slotted one home making it 4-0 FT. The semi final against Bromley was a tough game however a game which saw the girls through to the final keeping a clean sheet. The opening goal came from Leonine Bezant shortly after Yazmin Drake put herself on to the score sheet. Holly Kennard finished the game making the score 3-0 getting her self another goal within the competition.

The girls league season will be one to remember, we have been very successful with only losing one game so far this season and scoring 103 goals which I believe is the most goals any Sudbury team has scored within 19 games. As well as having the highest amount of goals scored in the league we also have the lowest goals conceded making out goal difference significantly high.

The NFYL women’s league cup will be mine and many others last game for the academy which will give the girls the boost and drive they need to leave a name and a legacy for the team at AFC Sudbury academy. This will be the first time AFC Sudbury girls academy has reached the final of this competition making it even more special for all of the girls and coaching staff. Being able to lift the cup will mean a lot to the girls who got to a national final of a different competition last year and narrowly missed out of 1st place. I’m sure this will also give them that extra bit of fight and desire not to have that feeling again.

Throughout the season there has been many ups and downs and a lot of change that the girls have had to adapt to such as having our coach Beth move on to a new role with the England College F.A and then having Dave step in and help us. There was a lot of disagreement at the start but I think this has only made us stronger as the weeks went on and is the reason we are now in the position we are in. Dave’s commitment has been second to none and even if all the girls don’t always show it we all do appreciate how much dave support all the players and how much Dave do behind the scene. Dave always says “I don’t care if we win all of the trophies if you haven’t improved as footballers then I haven’t done my job” which shows he cares about our development massively.
