Much improved performance

Following on from last weeks dire team performance, our boys started brightly against the team currently top of Division 3.

Holbrook were up for today’s game having been pipped to last seasons Division 4 title, but it was Sudbury who took the lead.

Aiden winning the ball back in midfield, played it to Freddie who played it in behind the Holbrook defence for our new striker, Tommy, to calmly slid it in to the far corner with the outside of his foot.

Needing our boys to stay calm having taken the lead, the next 5 minutes saw 3 costly mistakes allowing Holbrook to take control of the game and go 3-1.

Things got worse just before the end of the first half, when Holbrook got to the byline and cut the ball back to an unmarked player in the centre of the box to make it 4-1 at half time.

The game was not out of reach, we just needed our boys to put in a little more effort, but with Tommy struggling having just come back from injury and Ollie having to come off due to injury we had to re-shuffle as best we could meaning we last any attacking threat up top by having to play 1, and not wanting to give Holbrook the upper hand by sacrificing a defender.

Our boys dug deep and played some much better football, but just couldn’t find anyone on the final ball to put it in the net and had a solid penalty claim turned down.

Holbrook added a further 2 goals in the second half to secure their place at the top of the table and leaving us a lot of work to do to climb up the league with this result dropping us into the bottom 2.

Head up boys, lots of positives to take from today.

Today’s runner up Man of the Match went to Daniel for another solid performance in defence, but he was pipped to today’s accolade by Aiden. He got stuck in, didn’t give Holbrook a moments peace on the ball and took a few sacks for his efforts today but kept on coming back for more.

Well done Aiden, thoroughly deserved winner.
