Chalk Hill School plays first match at AFC Sudbury

The boys absolutely love their football!

Last Friday we welcomed Chalk Hill for the first of a number of matches planned using the AFC Sudbury stadium as its home ground.
Chalk Hill is for boys aged between 8 and 14 who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream schools. Most of our students have experienced difficulty, disturbance or trauma in their childhood. With the right support for their Social, Emotional and/or Mental Health needs, the school helps these children and young people to learn to change their behaviour, re-engage positively with learning and prepare for life as a successful learner, employee and citizen.
The Chalk Hill team is managed and coached by teacher, Byron Higgins. He commented “The boys absolutely love their football! We play as often as we can and it forms an important part of the caring, supportive and challenging learning environment which we provide. As with everything we do, playing football teaches our boys important lessons about life - and they were all so excited about playing at this fantastic stadium.”
Mike Onslow, Head of Disability Football and Inclusion continued “We are very pleased to be able to host Chalk Hill and all the similar schools in the area that they can invite. These youngsters need football as much as anyone and there was a tremendous amount of glee to be seen on everyone’s faces, which was lovey to see.”
This week’s visiting team was Sir Peter Hall School, a similar school based in Bury St Edmunds, with further fixtures planned for the next two Fridays and then into the first half of the Summer Term after Easter.
