LH: Joe, thanks for sitting down with us today. How long have you been at AFC Sudbury and where did you play growing up?
JG: I have been at Sudbury 2 years, as I've just finished my time at the academy, I played my football at Bury Town before joining Sudbury when I was 15.
LH: What enticed you to join the AFC Sudbury Academy? Was there something that made the program stand apart from the rest?
JG: What enticed me to join AFC Sudbury was how the academy was being run in such a professional way and the facilities are great and only getting better, there was no other clubs in the area who up to the level that this club was at.
LH: How did you find that first season with AFC? Are there any stand-out moments that come to mind?
JG: My first season at Sudbury was great firstly breaking into the reserves and getting an understanding of men's football, there was a lot of learning curves that year but it was a very successful year making my debut for the first team in the last game of the season.
LH: You have obviously spent a lot of time within the tight-knit community at the club. How would you describe your relationships with firstly the players and also the staff during your time at the Academy?
JG: My relationship with the players at the club are great and I've made friends for life, also the staff were great they knew when to have a laugh but more importantly when to get down to business.
LH: Last season, the Academy brought home a bumper trophy haul. What would you say has been your career highlight to date?
JG: Obviously getting to the national cup final was a huge achievement but then to lose it and come back in a weeks time to win a cup final and do it twice in two weeks to secure the triple was a massive highlight in my career.
LH: Talk to me about the legendary USA tour! It must have been an amazing few days?
JG: The USA tour was no doubt one of the best experiences in my life living in a mansion with my best mates while playing some great teams from across the pond, it's an experience that everyone should have.
LH: What do you remember about your 1st team debut?
JG: I remember being very nervous before the game and not having the best of games doing things i wouldnt of done previously to try to impress but it was a great learning curve in my career.
LH: If you had one piece of advice for a player thinking about joining the Academy, what would it be?
JG: Do it! But don't waste your time there take it seriously everyday to get the most out of your training and being able to use the facilities as much as you can and get your work done, you will become a much better player within the two years of being there and overall a much better person.
LH: So, what's next for Joe? Do you have any targets you are aiming to achieve over the current season and longer term?
JG: I'm looking forward to kick starting my senior career for real now and trying to push to start week in week out for the first team, and to show a much more mature style of playing football this year.
LH: I'm delighted to hear that you have been offered an apprenticeship at the club next season, fitting in well alongside your playing role. What is this going to involve and are you looking forward to getting started?
JG: I am very pleased to be offered an apprenticeship and to be working at this club that is only getting bigger and better and the opportunities are great with the future facilities in the plans so I'm glad to be apart of this club on and off the pitch.
