AFC Sudbury Womens FA Cup Match

AFC's FA Cup hope comes to an end

AFC go out of the FA cup on penalties……

This weekend we moved on to the first qualifying round against Newmarket Ladies with high hopes.

The game started off with the yellows coming out of the blocks fast and applying all the pressure in the first 10 mins with two excellent chances going begging.
The visitors rallied and with a quick counter attack saw Newmarket's Annabel Cuthbert stroke the ball into the net to give the visitors the lead.

On the 34th minute mark, Rebecca Stephenson played a great through ball to Maisie Goodwin who calmly slotted home to bring the score line level.

The second half was more of the same equally high intensity battle with both teams creating numerous chances with Newmarket taking a 1-2 lead hitting AFC on the break, time for a change Megan Partridge coming off the bench to equalise with her first touch. Newmarket then came back once again and took a 2-3 lead but Sudbury were not to be outdone and again found Partridge who equalised with an excellent strike.

After finishing the game 3-3 the tie ended up going straight to penalties. Unfortunately the girls lost out 2-4 to a well organised, experienced team.

The young team showed great heart and promise and would like to wish Newmarket town good luck in the next round.

Excellent Debut for Amber Provan from the academy coming off the bench with an assured display.
