Today we had the return leg against Sporting having only played them away last week.
Our boys started brightly and were playing some brilliant football but were down to an early goal from a quick counter attack play by Spirting with their number 10 scoring his 3rd goal against us.
Our boys didn’t let this get them down and kept playing some great football and thought they’d equalised when Max was put through and his early shot was lifted over the keeper and in, only for it to be disallowed for Offside.
We were denied another goal when Maty was put through and drilled his shot across the goalkeeper and into the back of the net, but again the flag went up and another goal was chalked off.
With a few minutes of the first half left, Kai released Maty, who timed his run brilliantly, before slotting home to tie the score.
Sporting looked like they were going to restore their lead just before half time, but there was Harry to pull off a fantastic save and tip the ball over the bar from close range.
Half time 1-1
The second half we started very lively, and Kai got in down the right before crossing. The ball came loose and there was Max to tap in on the line.
It was an evenly contested game with all the boys getting stuck in, but the moment of the game was still to come. From a Sporting throw on the left, our boys won the ball back and George then started us on our way passing to Jude. Controlling and playing to Jack D and slipped it into Kai who passed to Jack V and Kai continued his run and was played in by Jack V before Kai calmly slotted home to make it 3-1.
It was a nervy end to the game that was never out of reach for Sporting, but our boys stood firm, battled, played great football and deserved their victory today.
Man of the Match could easily have gone to any of our boys today, Harry pulling off some great saves and looked calm when under pressure, Ollie’s quick feet, Jude and George’s battling in midfield, but they were pipped to the accolade today by a player who had his best game all season. He got stuck in, made tackles, tracked back, supported the strikers and got himself a goal today for his efforts. Well done Max. Thoroughly deserved.
