Today we welcomed the visit of Haughley United for our first encounter with them this season and were privileged to watch a great battle between two teams playing some really nice football.
The Yellows were led out by Charlie Bradshaw today for all consistency, hard work and effort in both training and the games, and he didn’t disappoint by putting in another solid performance and not allowing any of their players any time on the ball.
Our boys did not allow them any time on the ball in their own half and were constantly pressing them to try and win the ball back. This paid off when Charlie managed to get himself between their player and the ball and pass to Oliver. Oliver then put in a defence splitting ball to find Leo free in the centre of the box who coolly slotted home.
The Yellows continued to press and keep Haughley on the back foot and our second goal quickly followed. A quick throw in down the left from Leo put Max clean through on goal and Max slotted in under the goalie.
Haughley got a second wind and started to push back the Yellows and managed to get 2 goals back before half time, which could have been more, if not for some great saves by Sam who managed to push a couple of shots on the the post as well as his best save of the game when Haughley were clean through and their strikers shot was destined for the bottom left hand corner, only for Sam to somehow get a hand to it and push it round the post and put for a corner.
The second half was an evenly thought contest which could have gone either way. Both teams pushing forward to get a goal, as well as defending resolutely to not concede.
Finally the deciding goal came and it went the way of the Yellows. Leo picked the ball up in space and drove in towards the centre of the pitch and from just outside the box he hit a powerful shot that took a slight deflection off of their defender, which wrong footed their goalkeeper, and ended up in the back of the net. It was no less than the boys deserved this week.
Man of the Match was a hard decision to make as all the boys played so well. This week it was awarded to a player who is improving week on week. He got stuck in again today, winning tackles in defence, passing the ball forwards to set up attacks and never looks fazed. Well done Kray
