Having been involved in girls football for 4 seasons and watched the girls in this year group grow, during my coaching positions at Suffolk F.A and Ipswich Valley Rangers, I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to take un under 14 girls team into the Junior Premiere League after a meeting with Darren Scoulding and Danny Laws
We all saw an opportunity for the next level of talent following on the back of the lionesses success in the summer, to give the girls a pathway through football.
And so invitations were sent out for open football sessions to take place in July, which were really well attended.
It was really important to me and Darren that we sold the club to them and made the potential squad welcome, and not see the two sessions as trials.
We knew the ability in the group and simply wanted them to be a part of the opportunity in a wonderful environment to play, and grow.
We ended up with 17 successful girls from Ipswich, Felixstowe, Stanway, Colchester, Cornard and Haverhill, next step to blend them into a team
And my word after three friendlies we were ready to go
The girls have a superb work ethic, and as I write this now with 3 matches left we sit second in the league to a very strong Millwall side , who we ran very close recently
The growth in adjusting to the away journeys on the Club Bus, Changing rooms and challenging and eventful away fixtures, as well as the higher level of opponent, some of which have played together for years, has been incredible
The commitment from both players and Parents has been overwhelming for both matches and training and the talent and performances have been outstanding, we now have 9 girls in the County School Squad, and in truth should be more.
With a national cup match fast approaching at home to Watford, we have lots to look forward to, as we look further ahead to the Manchester tournament in Easter
Anyone wanting to catch the girls play we have the following home games coming up all 12.00 KO
Watford 18th Feb
Lewes 25th Feb
London City Lionesses Kent 4th March
All the best
